The great thing about being on a Dickinson program? Along with our weekly stipend, we are given extra money now and then (from our tuition) to use for outside-of-class activities.
As an "assignment", we were told to go out and purchase tickets for two or three plays/musicals/other performances that we wanted to see (preferably something new) and do a quick write-up about the experience. £45 later and we were headed to see Wicked.
Now, on the average Larissa day, I would not go out and spontaneously buy a ticket for a musical. ESPECIALLY because Broadway (which is closest to me) is so expensive-it's a special-occasion-only purchase. But when in London? And already paid for? I felt obligated to pick something that I really wanted to see.
I've been DYING to see Wicked ever since my FCCC days (LOL at the time I was in a professional children's choir…) and we sang the highlights in our "Broadway concert" one February. Did I think the words would come right back to me as soon as they started up on stage? NOPE! But, I guess that's what happens when they are drilled into your wee brain at age 9 for months on end! (The amount of times I was told to open my mouth more and look 'excited' when I sang….I don't miss that part of choir.)
Photo from our seats-not too shabby considering we bought them the day before the show! Overall, I thought it was really well-done, and I thought that all of the actors were well-cast and seemed passionate about their roles. I wonder how long it takes to get all of that green make-up on and off for each performance?? These are the important questions of life.
I totally sang along in my seat--making Mr. Noyes proud all the way across the pond!
xx
