British Library Tour (Sept. 13th)

This morning we walked over to the British Library-not too far from our hotel-for a tour.  Let's just say that it was not exactly the experience we were expecting…and not in a good way (Perabo's opinion included).

Don't get me wrong: this is probably the most intense and majestic library I've ever been in.  We had the chance to see so many amazing artifacts and original books and pieces of literature that don't exist elsewhere; HOWEVER, the tour was insanely boring.  It was more than an hour long (attention span problems) and at practically every stop our guide talked about different research methods and opportunities available at the library…which didn't apply to us at all, but okay!  I guess if we ever want to do research there or sign up for a library card, we now know how to do that!

BUT, on the positive side, the great thing about the British Library is the INSANE amount of history it holds!  There are book collections  from Kings, original works from the Bronte sisters (I die!!), drafts of songs from The Beatles, and the Magna Carta.  Casual.  I think I could live here and be happy……tour aside, this was an amazing place, and I was totally geeking out.  All of these incredible works of literature in one place??  I mean, COME ON!!  I was in heaven.

Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with Dickinson's library (I have my specific nooks and crannies that I love and have taken ownership of over the past two years), but this library is a close second.  Just look at it!! (I know it's hard to tell through photos, but y'all will just have to trust me.)

It's so GRAND and full of perfect places to sit (loud and quiet sections, of course-just the way I like it!), and there are so many comfy looking chairs to read and do research in.  Easy to be both a tourist and a scholar in this place!  If we were staying in London the whole semester, I would DEFINITELY make this a study spot.  How can you not be productive in such an environment??  Love it.

xx
