Today's task? Go shopping and have fun on a Harry Potter tour. UM sounds like a great day to me! We hopped on the tube over to Covent Garden and met the rest of the class after breakfast in the hotel, and we walked around together for a bit exploring the shops and sampling some noms. It's a pretty cool area, and there are shops for basically every type of person which is great. I love the set-up of this main area:
Also exciting about visiting CG? We saw a quartet playing!! There were a bunch of other buskers around the area outside of shops, but these guys were BY FAR my favorite. Kind of biased? For sure. I miss my violin!! The acoustics in the area they were playing in were stellar, and you could hear them way before you could see them. Love the anticipation. Also, please just note that the cellist is playing while standing-that is really difficult to do!! Props to her. We stayed to watch and listen for a bit, and then moved on to lunch.
For some reason I have really been craving crepes recently (missing Helena's in Carlisle perhaps?), so when we came across a little crepe place OBVI we had to go in for lunch. They were super mini but really tasty! In typical Larissa fashion I got one with nutella and bananas. The only way to go. We spent the rest of our time going in and out of different shops (some from home, some I'd never been to/heard of-Jack Wills is a new favorite!). Also, most of our class went into the Disney store together….all of the little kids there were staring at us like, "get out, old people". Never deny the Disney magic.
Also, I really like this shot I got today:
Simple and classic, just the way I like it. Since our lunch was more like a snack, we went into a cupcake shop before leaving for our HP adventure-lemon and raspberry is a surprisingly tasty combo! And then it was off to the tube again…..
Now, let me make a disclaimer here: I am obsessed with Harry Potter. I have dressed up at midnight for the movie premieres, read all of the books multiple times, have a serious girl crush on Emma Watson…so I was REALLY pumped for this tour. Silly me (well, and the rest of our class, actually) was under the impression that we were going on the studio tour, so imagine my surprise when our meeting spot was on a random sidewalk.
Hmm…not off to a great start. Turns out, the tour Perabo found us (not blaming her in any way, I love her) was a walking tour of places that the films were shot around London. So that was actually kind of cool at some points of the tour, but then there were also some points when our guide was like, "look at this wall! don't you recognize this?? look, I have photo evidence as to its significance in such and such movie!"
…..and it would literally be a brick wall or something. Okay then. Talk about super fandom. One of the last stops was a bookshop that claims to be the oldest "occultist and mystical" bookshop in the world. We took a quick walk around inside and it had that warm and cozy feeling that I love about bookshops, but some of the book titles on the shelves were just a bit weird.
To each his own! Right across the street was another magic shop sort of place and they had HP money in the window. Was really tempted to get some to just carry around and use to see if people were paying attention. Alas, I did not.
So lots of walking and exploring today, but only two more days until we drive to Norwich! I'm kind of nervous. Flatmates?? A kitchen? Cooking for myself? Actual classes? Gah.
xx
